I swear I'm innocent this time! I have two VERY BIG NEWS ITEMS today, but this is all stuff that was announced over this last weekend. This is hot off the proverbial press, folks! Okay, okay. Let's get to it. First off, the movie option for WIDE AWAKE has been purchased by Do-Over Productions. The press release... Do-Over Productions has just announced that they have optioned the film rights to Wide Awake, the extraordinary webcomic written by Eric Trautmann and Brandon Jerwa, with art by Mirco Pierfederici and art direction by David Messina. As described in the press release from Do-Over, Wide Awake is the story of Amanda Carter, a young woman whose dreams of terrifying monsters are much more than just figments of her unconscious mind. If she doesn’t defeat them before she wakes up, the horrors from her dreams get loose in the physical world and she must deal with them there. Trautmann and Jerwa co-created the series which premiered a sample chapter on Free Comic Book Day and was originally scheduled to commence weekly chapters later this summer. This new deal may possibly alter that schedule some. Jarrod Feliciano and Mirjana Novkovic will produce and write the film adaptation. They are repped by attorney Bianca Bezdek-Goodloe. Do-Over Productions is currently in production of the crime drama Fallen Moon, directed by Peter Medak and produced by Feliciano, Novkovic, Valerie McCaffrey, and co-produced by Roger Pugliese. This is pretty big news for us, obviously. We'll be doing some press in the next couple of weeks to discuss this further. In immediate WIDE AWAKE news, Eric and will be signing copies of Popgun Vol. 2 at the Image Comics booth at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 24th from 10:30-11:30 A.M. Our nightmare-plagued heroine Amanda Carter was first introduced in that anthology in a short story called "Behind The Wall Of Sleep." If you're submitting to the madness that is Comic-Con, we sincerely hope you'll make time to come and see us. Now for the OTHER big news: Dynamite Entertainment will be publishing STARGATE comics based on various incarnations of the hit SyFy television franchise, and I'm writing one of the three series. This excerpt from a Newsarama article explains the whole thing far more effectively than I could hope to: “Stargate is truly a crown jewel when it comes to episodic science fiction television,” stated Dynamite President Nick Barrucci. “Just in time for the Stargate Universe series debuting in October, Dynamite will create an adventure series that retailers and fans alike will love. We have three separate launches planned, each designed to focus on the characters and attention coming the way of both the new show and Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis!” Helping bring the world of Stargate to life is a team of top creative talent including: John Watson, whose work has graced Marvel Comics covers as one of the finest painters in the industry. John will be doing his first sequential work EVER in Stargate Universe. Dynamite is also bringing in famed Star Wars painter Dave Dorman as the main cover artist, as well as writers Chuck Dixon (G.I. Joe) with a prequel to Stargate Universe, Doug Murray (Jungle Girl and ‘Nam) with the continuing stories from Stargate Atlantis beginning with Season Six and Brandon Jerwa (Battlestar Galactica) on Stargate SG1 beginning with Season #11. Dynamite will be launching a Stargate #0 bringing three different stories in one event comic for $1.00, to help introduce fans to the Stargate “universe”. I'd say "that's all for now," but jeez - isn't this enough? Besides, I need to go finish doing laundry and packing for San Diego. Hope to see you there, kids! |
